International Chess Day!

This year International Chess Day is on a Wednesday, so when you come to Family Chess Night and/or Chess Camp on July 20, 2011, if you know the special password, you'll get a special prize.  The special password is "Grandmaster."

A Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain (besides World Champion). When used precisely, it is the title awarded by FIDE, starting in 1950, but it can be used to describe someone of comparable ability. The FIDE is the Fédération Internationale des Échecs or World Chess Federation, an international organization that connects the various national chess federations around the world and acts as the governing body of international chess competition.

Some are going to like this, some are going to hate this. Sorry.

After careful consideration, I have decided to change the rules regarding how a person can win the Grand Prize giant pawns.  To make it more fair, instead of whoever plays the most games in each division automatically getting the prize, I am going to make it a raffle.  For every game you play, your name will go into the bucket.  We will then draw a name at the end of the tournament for the winner of the Grand Prize in each division.  Sorry, Adam and Shanta.

Don't forget!

You have to play at least 6 games in order to qualify to win a prize in the tournament!  So far, I only have 9 out of 23 players in Division 1 and only 4 out of 12 qualifiers in Division 2.  There's still plenty of time to play, the tournament doesn't end until January 31st so come in any time!
