Matteson Public Library Youth Services
Rules for the 2010-2011 Winter Chess Tournament
*The tournament will go from December 15th, 2010, to January 31st, 2011.
*Children must register in Youth Services in order to get credit for their game.
*Players can play any time the library is open. After each game, players must record their game’s results at the Youth Services desk in order for it to count.
*Youth Services will provide the boards and pieces, players must find their own opponents.
*Opponents can be children or adults, but only children will be awarded prizes.
*All children who play at least 6 (SIX) games will win a prize for participating.
Category prizes will be given in the following order to the players in each division, 1st-5th Graders and 6th-12th Graders, who have played at least 6 (SIX) games, have achieved the goal for that category, and have not already won a prize.
One Category Prize will be given per achiever. Prizes will first be distributed for highest scores in each category, then for second highest in each category, and so on. If a player has already won a prize, the prize will instead be given to the runner-up.
*Highest Win Percentage (Wins divided by Games Played)
*Most Wins
*Most Points (Wins count for 1 (one) point, ties count for half (1/2) a point, and losses count for zero (0) points. For each game you play against a Unique Opponent, a person you have NOT played before, you will get 1 (one) bonus point.)
*Most Unique Opponents (a person you have NOT played before in this tournament)
(If there is a tie in the above categories, the winner will be the player with more games played.)
*Most Games Played (If there is a tie in this category, the winner will be the player with more unique opponents.)
Mr. Joseph reserves the right to adjust rules if necessary.
